Berlitz Language Learning Centre

Berlitz is 140 years old this year. During the past 50 years, Berlitz Canada, with schools in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Calgary have delivered thousands of hours of training in French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and many more languages, as a second language, to adults in individual or group courses. Berlitz caters to Corporations who conduct their business overseas and require their staff to speak a second language to ensure business get done right through proper communication, which increases productivity, fosters innovation, and improves market/leadership skills. Also, Berlitz has helped several thousands of people within different government organizations to reach their government levels in accordance with the Public Service Commission requirements. We understand government training requirements, based on years of experience meeting and exceeding the high standards of government organizations. We also understand the aims of the Official Languages Act and are experienced in fulfilling its objectives of legally preserving language rights at the Federal Government level and fostering the full recognition and use of both English and French in Canadian society. No other company can offer you the breadth and depth of language training services that we offer.

Programs: Corporate Language Training

Berlitz offers training based on the needs of the company. The Language of their choice is conducted through several methods: private, group, and virtual, as their employees could be in another city or they require a small group to be taught all together. Private Instruction is given on a one-on-one basis by highly-trained instructors who have native fluency in their own language. As such, it is a fast, effective and pleasant way to acquire your new language with the teacher’s undivided attention, so each student is given the chance to progress at his/her own pace, easily, comfortably and without pressure.  Because there are no distractions, the student learns 100% of the time, spending approximately 50% of the time listening and 50% of the time speaking.  A significant advantage of Private Instruction is the ability to schedule according to the student’s needs. The classes are also available by group, based on the need of the employer.

The Group option allows for economies of scale – more taught at one time saves money and is more efficient. The amount of time is also decided by the employer. If they need to send someone in a hurry, then the 1 month program. Generally companies choose 3 or 4 month programs. The length of time is also up to the company. They could request lunch hour, before or after work, on Saturdays only. Therefore, Berlitz is flexible to the clients needs. The pricing depends on the length of time, and when and where the class is conducted. It is generally blended based on the need of the client.

Berlitz follows the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the Common European Framework for Language Learners Benchmarks as well. There are 10 levels; 1 – Beginner to 10 – Native Speaker, or ABC levels. When a student completes 1 program, they will have gone up 1 level. The amount of levels will be determined by where they started and what level of proficiency they want to be at upon completion. Therefore, the prices are based on length of time the Corporations require them to be ready to conduct business in a second language.

We have the students complete an on-line Language Test to assess their current level. In each level there is an explanation of the objective/ability of the student and how they will be able to communicate once they have reached each level. We also have several Quality Assurance checks along the way. We have an in-house Instructional Supervisor who does several checks, counseling sessions, and progress report throughout the program. This information comes to the Director as well, to ensure our reputation and the students’ progress is on track.
