Canadians: Being Bilingual Is a Good Thing

More than eight in 10 Canadian adults say it’s a good thing that Canada is bilingual, according to a national government survey.

In addition, eight-in-10 Canadians say that being a dual language country is good for Canada’s international image.

One reason sited: "Bilingualism reflects the English and French heritage of our country."

Reasons, according to research, why bilingualism is an advantage:

  • Employment opportunities
  • Personal enrichment
  • To meet other Canadians
  • To understand other cultures

An interesting, but unrelated fact: Montreal has the second largest number of French-speaking adults, behind only Paris.
